PHONETIC VARIABILITY OF BRITISH AND AMERICAN ENGLISH IN TEACHING AND TRANSLATION ASPECTS

Abstract

The article examines phonetic variability in British and American varieties of English from the perspectives of language teaching and translation. The major differences in vowel and consonant systems, word stress, and intonation between the codified models of Received Pronunciation (RP) and General American (GA) are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties that arise in the formation of phonetic competence among higher education students, as well as in the practice of interpreting and audiovisual translation.
