Abstract

Laminitis is a very common and dangerous disease in horses. It can arise from dietary and exercise-related issues (such as excessive feeding of concentrates combined with minimal physical exertion), working on hard ground, severe stress (due to excessive cortisol secretion), endometritis, or retained placenta. It is a diffuse aseptic condition that begins with inflammation of the laminae and gradually spreads to the rest of the hoof's connective tissue structures.
