Military threats for sustainable food systems: Ukrainian case

Abstract

The critical importance of food security at the global and local levels, as well as the role of sustainable food systems in addressing this issue, are highlighted. The impact of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2022, which caused a humanitarian crisis and disrupted global food supply chains, is studied. The description of Ukraine as a world supplier of food is provided. Damages to the Ukrainian agricultural sector as a result of the war and the significance of the Black Sea Grain Initiative for mitigating their consequences are assessed. The Draft of Ukraine Recovery Plan and the tools of the "New Agrarian Policy" for the recovery and support of the Ukrainian agro-food sector were considered.
