The article analyzes the structure of Ukraine’s labor resources according to age groups and establishes that in the first quarter of 2020 the Ukrainian labor market was dominated by representatives of Generation X (approximately 48,1%) and Generation Y (40,5%); baby boomers (4,4%) are leaving the labor market and going into retirement, while the share of Generation Z share (7%) is increasing. It is indicated that the new generation coming to the labor market (representatives of Generation Z) is to a certain extent changing the rules for everyone. It is substantiated that the conditions in which the representatives of a certain generation are growing up influence the formation of their values, character traits and behavioural models. The article examines the features of representatives of baby boomers, Generation X (unknown generation), Generation Y (millennials) and Generation Z (centennials), in particular their attitudes to work, professional training and team behaviour. It has been proven that the differences between generations, especially concerning the attitudes towards work responsibilities, are often the reason for conflicts and problems in work teams. These problems are becoming more apparent because of the challenges faced by companies during the corona crisis: remote work, the necessity of building effective communication and just-in-time completion of tasks; the need for employees to master new skills quickly. That is why human resource managers need to know the differences between generations and take them into consideration when performing their duties, choosing the appropriate tools and methods that would foster common understanding between employees and the utmost fulfillment of the labor potential of employees belonging to different generations. With that in mind the article complies recommendations about transforming HR processes while considering the values, interests and needs of the three generations dominating the Ukrainian labor market: Generations X, Y and Z. Tools and methods used by HR managers are grouped by functions that they carry out: recruitment (hiring, selection and adaptation of personnel), appraisal, motivation, personnel learning and development, corporate culture and internal communications. It is emphasized that the effectiveness of personnel at an enterprise or organization depends to a large extent on the manager’s ability to use the knowledge of generation theory while putting together highly effective teams that operate based on the law of synergy, when drawbacks common among the representatives of one generation are compensated by the advantages of the other.
