| Abstract: | У статті здійснено комплексний аналіз економічного потенціалу побічного лісокористування в Україні в кон-тексті переходу лісового господарства до принципів сталого розвитку. Обгрунтовано необхідність переосмисленняролі побічних лісових ресурсів на тлі сучасних глобальних викликів — посилення кліматичних змін, деградації лісо-вих екосистем, зростання антропогенного навантаження та підвищеного попиту на біоресурси. Авторами було з'я-совано, що побічне лісокористування, яке тривалий час залишалося недооціненим, має значний економічний, еколо-гічний і соціальний потенціал, здатний забезпечити додаткову стійкість лісового сектору та місцевих громад. Раціо-нальне побічне лісокористування здатне сприяти підвищенню якості лісових насаджень, зниженню собівартості деревини, поліпшенню стану грунтів, регуляції водного режиму та загальному зміцненню стійкості лісів до кліматич-них і антропогенних викликів. У роботі обгрунтовано необхідність гармонізації національної лісової політики з євро-пейськими підходами та інтеграції оцінювання побічних ресурсів у стратегічні документи розвитку лісового секто-ру. За результатами аналізу зроблені висновки про ключові можливості для розвитку побічного лісокористування вУкраїні та надано рекомендації щодо інтеграції цих напрямків у національну стратегію сталого розвитку лісовогосектору. |
| Description: | This article presents a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the economic potential inherent in secondary forestuse (SFU) within Ukraine, critically examining its pivotal role in the fundamental transition of national forestry practicestoward the principles of long-term sustainable development. It rigorously substantiates the urgent imperative to radicallyrethink and elevate the significance of secondary forest resources (SFR) against the accelerating backdrop of complexcontemporary global challenges that pose substantial threats to forest viability and ecosystem services. These pressingchallenges notably include the escalating intensification of climate change impacts (such as rising temperatures andextreme weather events), the accelerating degradation of vital forest ecosystems (including biodiversity loss), therelentless growth of direct anthropogenic pressure on natural resources (like illegal logging and recreational overuse),and the continuously increasing global demand for diverse biological resources. The authors decisively establish thatSFU, which has historically been unjustly underestimated and often marginalized within traditional forest managementframeworks, possesses a profound and multifaceted potential?encompassing significant economic value, critical ecologicalbenefits, and substantial social upliftment. The implementation of rational, scientifically informed, and environmentallyresponsible secondary forest use practices (such as harvesting berries, mushrooms, medicinal plants, or minor woodproducts) is shown to contribute substantially to achieving a series of vital positive outcomes: enhancing the overallquality and vigor of existing forest plantations through necessary silvicultural interventions; effectively reducing theunit cost of primary forest products (wood) through strategic revenue diversification and improved resource utilization;significantly improving soil health, structure, and fertility by promoting sustainable biomass extraction; ensuring betterregulation of regional water regimes and reducing runoff; and, most importantly, universally strengthening the intrinsicresilience of forest ecosystems against combined climatic and anthropogenic stressors, recognized as a key priority formodern forest policy and climate change mitigation efforts. Finally, concrete, practical, and highly targetedrecommendations are meticulously provided for effectively integrating these essential and highly beneficial activityareas into the national strategy for the sustainable and balanced development of the forest sector, thereby ensuring themaximization of long-term ecological, economic, and social benefits derived from the nation's precious forest assets andfostering a circular bioeconomy. |
