| Abstract: | У цій статті з когнітивної точки зору аналізуються мовні фактори, що зумовлюють лексичну сумісність англійських параметричних прикметників ample, extended, expanded, wide та broad. Аналіз стосується використання цих прикметників як стосовно матеріальних об’єктів, так і абстрактних понять. Колокації цих прикметників було зібрано з British National Corpus, їхня загальна кількість становить 4 000. Автор висуває гіпотезу, що їхня сумісність визначається глибинними когнітивними моделями, які лежать в основі семантики цих прикметників. З огляду на складне походження прикметника, припускається, що закономірності сумісності прикметників слід шукати не на семантичному, а на глибшому, концептуальному рівні, шляхом моделювання образних схем, через які інтерпретувалися параметри різноманітних об’єктів. Для моделювання образних схем враховується етимологія прикметників. Згідно з цим дослідженням, образні схеми успадковуються від етимонів прикметників і відображають спекулятивні вектори поширення якості. |
| Description: | This article analyzes, from a cognitive perspective, the linguistic factors that determine the lexical compatibility of the English parametric adjectives ample, extended, expanded, wide, and broad. The analysis examines the use of these adjectives in relation to both concrete objects and abstract concepts. Collocations of these adjectives were collected from the British National Corpus, with a total of 4,000 entries. The author hypothesizes that their compatibility is determined by deep cognitive models underlying the semantics of these adjectives. Given the complex origin of adjectives, it is suggested that patterns of adjective compatibility should be sought not at the semantic level, but at a deeper, conceptual level, by modeling the figurative schemes through which the parameters of various objects were interpreted. The etymology of adjectives is taken into account for modeling these figurative schemes. According to this study, figurative schemes are inherited from the etymons of adjectives and reflect speculative vectors of the diffusion of quality. |
